What are Dedicated Servers?

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 major types - shared website hosting servers, VPS (virtual web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared servers host a lot of clients and hence the resources per web hosting account are restricted, virtual private server packages give you more configuration independence, but also influence other VPS servers on the hardware node if used rashly, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to carry out everything you think fit without messing with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are normally much more expensive than shared hosting servers or VPS servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is pretty simple. If your corporation has a heavy resource-requiring web page, or just has very special server architecture requirements, the most suitable option would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is willing to invest in security and dependability, the bigger price is not an issue. You have full server root access and can utilize 100 percent of the hosting web server's system resources without anyone else using these system resources and messing with your web sites.

Hardware configurations

Most web hosting firms, including us at ERPNODE, offer different hardware configurations you can select from in accordance with your requirements. The hardware configurations offer different types of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and server hard drive sizes and different traffic allowances. You can select a web hosting CP, which is a convenient user interface if you want to use the web server for web hosting purposes only and choose not to resort to SSH for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three types of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-assured Linux user (our dedicated web hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated server via SSH only. That, however, could be inconvenient, particularly if you choose to give access to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. That is why having hosting CP software installed is a brilliant idea. The Hepsia Control Panel software tool that we provide does not offer root privileges and is mainly suitable for someone who runs lots of web sites that consume a lot of resources, but wishes to manage the web pages, databases and electronic mail aliases through an intuitive Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant complete server root access and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting plans instead of utilizing the hosting server only for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your dedicated hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is good to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at ERPNODE the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also an extra feature - the hosting provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would permit you to keep the very same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a server disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete root access deletes something by mistake.
